Jim Ducker Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
Psychotherapy Fee: $150 / Session
College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) #20122
Jim holds a master’s degree in counselling psychology and brings a lifetime of lived experience to his work. He has been involved in men’s groups for over 30 years, and has worked through his own childhood trauma, reshaped unhelpful patterns, and developed a much clearer connection with his feelings. He has explored his own sexuality, gender identity, and relationship style preferences, and respects all forms of human expression.
Jim integrates cognitive, humanistic, and somatic approaches within a trauma-informed framework. He views human behaviour as shaped by life experiences and helps you relate to old patterns with awareness and compassion. His style is practical, direct, and tailored to your current needs, offering a non-judgmental space for meaningful change.
Relationships
Relationships are powerful spaces for growth, but they can also amplify patterns that no longer serve you, like aggression, control, criticism, avoidance, and infidelity. When challenges arise, we start by looking inward to understand your feelings, needs, and what truly matters. From there, we develop healthier communication, clearer boundaries, and more intentional responses. The goal is to help you build relationships that are more connected, honest, and aligned with your values and vision.
Compulsions
Some behaviours are hard to stop. What starts as relief or distraction can become patterns that leave you feeling stuck, ashamed, and out of alignment. Instead of only trying to stop the behaviour, we look at what is underneath, what is being avoided, and what truly matters. From there, I help you act with greater awareness and intention, facing resistance with compassion. The goal is to loosen these patterns and help you reclaim your personal agency.
Anxiety
Often felt in the chest or throat, anxiety carries powerful stories like, “I can’t handle it,” “I’ll fail,” or “They won’t like me.” These thoughts can pull you into avoidance and keep you from what matters. Using practical tools, I help you relax the physiological response, explore the story, and create spaciousness within so you can live with greater ease and enjoy your life.
Trauma
“Trauma is not what happened to you. Trauma is what happens inside you as a result of what happened to you” – Gabor Maté Men often minimize the impact of difficult experiences. Yet intense or repeated chaos, violence, or abuse can lead to real challenges in relationships, work, and daily life. In our work, we focus on what’s happening now, gently explore links to the past, and use this awareness to help you integrate your experiences. This can bring relief, strengthen connection to yourself and others, and support a healthier, more fulfilling path forward.
Sexuality
Sexuality is a natural part of being human, shaped by biology, culture, relationships, and past experiences. It can bring connection and vitality, or confusion and distress. Unmet needs, stress, lack of experience, or earlier boundary violations can shape how you relate to it. Together, we explore what’s working, what isn’t, what matters most, and what other areas of your life need attention so you can find healthy sexual expression.

Summer Break Notice: Please note that I will be away for a summer break from August 24 through September 7, 2026.
Tim is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) who prioritizes a relational approach focused on developing trust.
He integrates diverse modalities to help clients address distorted thinking, explore internal ‘parts’ driving reactivity, break addictive patterns, and reclaim agency or authenticity.
Tim lives in Toronto, ON with his partner, daughter, and two rescue dogs, and can be regularly found checking out live underground music, at the gym, and on the mats training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to support his own well-being.
Tim’s Key Areas of Focus:
Fatherhood: Navigating parenthood is one of the greatest gifts – and challenges - a man can face. Tim will work together to reduce paternal stress and reactivity, and become the partner, father, and man you want to be.
Relational Issues: Struggling with the fallout from inappropriate behaviour or betrayal? Feeling disempowered, stuck, or lacking agency in life and relationships? Uncover stuck patterns and find ways to reclaim responsibility.
Intimacy and Sexuality: Men need the tools to understand the relationship between intimacy and sex. Tim provides a confidential space to discuss healthy sexuality, increase self-awareness in ways that help your relationship with others, and become the communicator you aspire to be.
Addictive and Compulsive Behaviour: Behaviours that provide temporary relief or excitement can become compulsive. In some cases, life becomes chaotic or unmanageable. Tim will provide a non-judgemental perspective and help uncover core beliefs driving the cycle of behaviour.
Identity: Uncover unconscious models of masculinity, relationships, or self that keep you feeling lonely, stuck, or even trapped in aspects of identity that feel inauthentic.
Existential Meaning: Address anxiety and purposelessness by understanding the unique history and values behind your actions.

Topics of Special Interest
Trauma and Challenging Childhoods
Many men carry the effects of a challenging childhood or a specific traumatic event without realizing how much it still shapes their lives. You might notice trust issues, emotional numbness, people-pleasing, fear of rejection, or feeling like you always have to stay in control. Some men feel constantly on edge, while others feel disconnected from their emotions or struggle to understand why certain situations trigger such strong reactions. These patterns often develop as ways your mind and body learned to protect you earlier in life, even if they no longer serve you now. I work with men to understand how past trauma still shapes reactions today and help those protective patterns update so you can feel safer, more grounded, and in control.
Anxiety
Struggling with anxiety, chronic stress, and constant overthinking that makes it hard for men to relax and switch their mind off. You might find yourself replaying conversations, worrying about the future, feeling pressure to perform, or always expecting something to go wrong. Anxiety can show up physically too — tight chest, racing thoughts, trouble sleeping, irritability, or feeling constantly on edge. I help men understand how anxiety works, the beliefs driving their anxiety, and develop practical ways to slow the cycle and regain a sense of calm.
Anger
Do you ever find yourself asking, “Why do I get angry so easily?” You might notice irritability, a short temper, or feeling like anger builds up until it comes out in ways you regret. Small things can suddenly trigger strong reactions, leading to arguments or tension in relationships. Often, anger becomes the emotion that shows up on the surface even when deeper feelings like stress, hurt, pressure, or feeling disrespected are underneath. I help men understand the source of their anger, recognize triggers, understand what their anger is trying to accomplish, and help them express emotions and handle conflict without losing control.
Relationships
Many men come to therapy because they feel stuck in the same relationship problems again and again. You may struggle with communication, emotional distance, trust issues, conflict with a partner, or feeling misunderstood in relationships. Some men want closeness but pull away when things become vulnerable, while others feel they are always trying to fix problems but nothing seems to change. These patterns often show up not only in romantic relationships but also with family, friends, and coworkers. I help men recognize these patterns and develop healthier communication, stronger boundaries, and deeper connection in relationships.
